The Apex and Cary community happens to be the home of thousands of businesses and entrepreneurs. To promote Global Entrepreneurship Week, I researched and meet with a few business owners and entrepreneurs who found success in our community. Businesses in the area are extremely diverse; so I decided to focus in on a local ice cream shop, a pet care service, and a graphic design company.

Andia’s Homemade Ice Cream
Andia’s Homemade Ice Cream is a local shop that was established and is currently operated by Andia Xouris and her family. The shop originally opened in 2014 as The Freezing Pointe. However, over the summer of 2017, with the help of marketing advisors, they began to rebrand themselves as Andia’s Homemade Ice Cream. They have earned the title of the Top Homemade Ice Cream Caterer in the Triangle of NC.
Their ice cream is not only rich in delicious flavor, but also in family history and Greek culture. Andia and her parents moved from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus when she was six years old. “I grew up in a traditional Greek home, with a mom who cooked delicious meals from scratch every night, and made fresh desserts regularly. I learned how to cook and bake at a young age, so creating in the kitchen has always been a passion of mine,” Andia says.
Additionally, she owes much of her business success and aspirations to her father. Upon moving to the United States, he worked tirelessly to establish a successful food distribution business even though he never received a high school diploma. Through this business, he taught Andia about business, building loyal customers, and customer service. “He is one of the reasons why I strive so hard to succeed. Even though he’s not here with us anymore, I want to make him proud,” Andia says.
This year, Andia’s is partnering with Apex DECA, the Apex High Culinary department, and Cougar TV. This partnership was established to help Andia’s with community promotion and marketing. Through this collaboration effort, many students at Apex have been able to listen to and learn from the successful local entrepreneur.
All-in-all, Andia’s is a successful local business that serves delicious ice cream and has humble origins. Their storefront is located at 10120 Green Level Church Rd. #203, Cary NC. For more information, visit their website, http://www.andiasicecream.com.
